Garrett Wallace: Place of Birth: Birmingham, Alabama
DOB: February 1952
Raised in Brookfield, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago.
Graduated from Riverside-Brookfield Township High School Attended college, mostly fraternity parties, at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Served in the U.S. Navy 1970-77
Went to work for Middle South Utilities, now Entergy, after leaving the service in '77.
"I have worked at Baxter Wilson Steam Electric Station since
February of '78 and lived in Vicksburg since January of '83. I have two daughters, Shannon Wallace Hollingsworth and Molleigh Wallace, and brand new
twin grandchildren, Ty and Kayleigh Hollingsworth.
"I have been involved extensively with the Boy Scouts of America and the Vicksburg Theatre Guild for almost ten years, serving on the Board of
Directors as well as directing plays, designing and building sets. I've had a life long interest in art dabbling in all mediums but I enjoy
sculpture most. It was the convergence of three-dimensional art and my involvement in the theatre that led to my interests in masks and mask making.
"I became interested in the technical side of mask making when I made the Donkey head for VTG's production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights Dream". Several years later, while doing make-up for our production of "The Hobbit", I began working with foam and casting latex which has led to an interest in body casting, another area altogether. More recently, while
doing research for a future production of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" where the masks of the mid sixteenth century Italian commedia dell'arte school were used, I've become interested in the overall history of
masks and mask making."
